A few checks first.
The launcher does not open
Use the latest installer from our download page. Install the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime if the launcher reports it is missing. Close PlayM2 and reopen it once; keep the exact error if it fails again.
My game is not supported
PlayM2 supports the tested Steam Mafia II Classic installation, not Definitive Edition. In the launcher’s Settings, select Mafia2.exe inside your Classic installation’s pc folder. Modified or different executable versions can fail verification. Use Steam’s file verification to restore original files; do not download replacement executables from strangers.
The server is missing or will not connect
Check Freeroam’s live status, refresh the launcher’s server list, and keep Steam running. The current test server has four slots. If an update fails, retry from the launcher and save the exact error. Do not disable your firewall or antivirus as a troubleshooting step.
I see a Windows publisher warning
Our early-access installer is not yet signed with a Windows publisher certificate. Download only from https://playm2.net. The download page provides a SHA-256 checksum. If Windows or your security software blocks it, keep the warning for the team; this guide does not ask you to bypass your protection.
The game freezes or memory usage keeps growing
Stop the session if memory climbs unusually high. Record what you were doing, approximate time, game/client version and how long the session had lasted. See known issues before repeating the same test.
Make the next report useful.
The forum is being commissioned. Reading is available; account registration and posting remain closed until email verification and recovery are tested. You can prepare your report now.
- Give the problem a short, specific title.
- List the steps another player can repeat.
- Describe what you expected and what actually happened.
- Include your launcher version, Windows version, server, and approximate date/time with time zone.
- For sync problems, explain what each player saw. A short clip from both sides is especially useful.
Use the launcher’s diagnostics export in Settings to save a JSON report. Review it before sharing; remove personal paths or other information you do not want public. Never upload passwords, tokens, your game installation, or a full memory dump to a public topic.
Keep sensitive reports private.
Do not post security vulnerabilities, personal information, or abuse evidence containing private details in public topics. The private contact channel is still being configured; it will be listed here after delivery is verified.
